Downtown Reading’s First Friday Block Parties will return on Friday, June 5, bringing live entertainment, food vendors, games, art activities, and family-friendly fun to the 600 block of Penn Street.
The event will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. and is free to attend. Organizers say the evening is designed to bring residents and visitors together to enjoy local businesses, community organizations, and entertainment in the heart of downtown.
Live music will be provided by Orquesta Tropikal, which is scheduled to perform beginning at 6:30 p.m. DJ Henry Houdini will provide music throughout the evening.
Several local businesses and organizations are expected to participate, including AT&T, LRC Crochet, Dee’s Fashions, Que Rico Dance Company, Little Dreamer’s Shop & More, Nemesis Fitness, Golden Home Healthcare, the Reading Area Water Authority, and GoggleWorks Center for the Arts.
Food and beverage options will include Agave Mexican Food Truck, Xoloitzcuintle Mexican Restaurant, Pulse Café, Sugary Jayy, and Yireh’s Cakes.
As part of the city’s growing excitement surrounding the upcoming FIFA World Cup, attendees will have an opportunity to participate in street soccer activities led by Reading High School soccer coach Gina Cardenas. Organizers describe street soccer as a fast-paced version of the game played in smaller spaces, emphasizing quick decision-making, ball control, and creativity.
For those looking for a less active experience, foosball tables will also be available.
Additional activities will include Latin dance lessons led by Christina and the Que Rico Latin Dance team, an art activity hosted by GoggleWorks Center for the Arts, and games such as cornhole, jumbo Jenga, and Connect Four. Chalk and coloring stations will also be available for children and families.
Free parking will be available at the Fourth and Cherry Garage, located at 29 S. Fourth St.
Organizers encourage residents to visit downtown for an evening of food, music, art, and community activities suitable for all ages.
